When you choose to invest in your golf abilities, you can rest assured that you’ll see and feel a difference the next time you play a round of golf.

Golf Swing Techniques

During your one-on-one golf lesson, Mark will structure the session around your goals and current abilities. The right setup and stance are crucial to improving your swing. Standing in the correct position and properly holding your golf club will set you up for success on the golf course.

Your setup may be addressed by discussing the following:

  • Alignment: The proper setup for aligning your feet and golf club to hit the ball.
  • Stance: The proper standing position involves evenly distributing your weight on both feet by spreading them apart and keeping the knees slightly bent. Your upper body should be leaning forward.
  • Grip: The way you hold the golf club impacts the effectiveness of your swing. Your right hand should be below your left hand on the club, with your shoulders sloped upwards.

When learning how to swing your club properly, it is important to address all aspects of the golf swing. From initially moving the club back to hitting the ball, every little action matters and affects your outcome. Your lesson may involve the following swing techniques:

  • Takeaway: Viewed as the first movement you make with the club, the takeaway occurs when you swing the club back and ends when the club is parallel to the ground.
  • Backswing: Right after the takeaway ends, the backswing step starts. This is when the club is swung back and upward, ending with the club pointed up in the air.
  • Top of the Swing: After the backswing, there is a transitionary period known as the top of the swing that guides you into the downswing. During this time, your hands will be at the highest position.
  • Downswing: The downswing is when the club is swung downward towards the ball for impact.
  • Impact: Though a short moment in the entire swing process, impact is still an essential part. This is when the club hits the ball.
  • Follow-through: Your swing isn’t finished once the ball is hit, as your club will move back once again to “release” the swing. Follow-through occurs after the swing is released and is essential for the path of the swing.
